Commentary


Nicolás de Piérola, né le 5 janvier 1839 à Arequipa, et mort le 23 juin 1913 à Lima, est un homme politique péruvien, président du Pérou de 1879 à 1881, puis de 1895 à 1899.

Médaille réalisée à l’occasion du premier anniversaire de son second mandat en tant que président, avec une signature illisible à la base du buste.

Peru gained its independence on July 28, 1821, thanks to General San Martin. Bolivar ensured the integrity of Peru by eliminating the last Spanish troops in 1824 but Spain did not recognize Peru's independence until 1879.
