Born in 126, Pertinax had a brilliant military and senatorial career. He was Prefect of the City at the time of the assassination of Commodus. Appointed emperor on January 1, 193, his reforms displeased the Praetorians in particular. He was killed on March 28 after a reign of 86 days..
