Historical background

PERSIS - KINGDOM OF PERSIS - OXATHRES

(1st century BC)

La Perside seems to have played an important role in the history of the Achaemenid Empire. Persepolis was one of the capitals of the Empire. La Perside kept a certain autonomy under the Macedonian domination which was perpetuated under the Parthians. The founder of the dynasty seems to have been Bagadate at the end of the 3rd century BC. Oxathres is one of the sons of Darius II and the brother of Artaxerxes II and the grandson of Autophradates II. His son, Pirouz I succeeded him.
