Commentary

Toutes les monnaies connues de Pennery ont été frappées par un seul monétaire, MODERICVS. Le premier type a une tête d’une style naturaliste (B. 3641) et le second a une tête à l’appendice perlé (B. 3642-3643). Notre triens appartient à la seconde variante avec le nom de l’atelier au droit et le monétaire au revers. L’exemplaire B. 3643 auquel semble correspondre cet exemplaire provient de la vente Hoffmann du 5 février 1868, n° 209 et est indiqué appartenir au Cabinet de France .
All of Pennery's known coins were struck by a single mint, MODERICVS. The first type has a head in a naturalistic style (B. 3641) and the second has a head with a pearled appendage (B. 3642-3643). Our triens belongs to the second variant with the mint name on the obverse and the mint on the reverse. The B. 3643 example to which this example appears to correspond comes from the Hoffmann sale of February 5, 1868, No. 209 and is indicated as belonging to the Cabinet de France
