Commentary


Après la mort de Jacques Röettiers en 1772, les jetons d'étrennes seront octogonaux. T. V. Berckel devint graveur officiel de Charles de Lorraine en 1776 et resta en charge jusqu'à sa mort en 1780.
Charles était le quatrième fils de Léopold de Lorraine et de Charlotte d'Orléans. Frère de François Ier d'Autriche, il fut Gouverneur des Pays Bas Autrichiens jusqu'à sa mort.
After the death of Jacques Röettiers in 1772, the New Year's tokens were octagonal. TV Berckel became official engraver to Charles of Lorraine in 1776 and remained in office until his death in 1780. Charles was the fourth son of Leopold of Lorraine and Charlotte of Orléans. Brother of Francis I of Austria, he was Governor of the Austrian Netherlands until his death.

(1712-1780)

Charles-Alexandre de Lorraine (1712-1780) was the fourth son of Léopold de Lorraine and Charlotte d'Orléans. Brother of François I of Austria, he was governor of the Austrian Netherlands until his death. Charles-Alexandre became Grand Master of the Catholic Teutonic Order on May 4, 1761.
