Historical background

PARTHIA - PARTHIAN KINGDOM - VONONES I

(8-12 AD)

Vonones I, son of Phraates IV, spent his youth in exile in Rome. After the assassination of Orodes III, he was called upon to ascend the throne. Bathed in Greco-Latin culture, he quickly became unpopular and had to fight against Artaban II of Atropatene, proclaimed king in 10 AD. Defeated, Vonones I had to go into exile.
