Historical background

PARTHIA - PARTHIAN KINGDOM - VOLOGASES VI

(207-222)

Vologèse VI is the eldest son of Vologèse V (191-207) and the grandson of Vologèse IV (147-191). After the disastrous reign of his father and the invasion of the kingdom, with the capture of Ctesiphon by Septimius Severus in 198, Vologesis VI must now face the son of Septimius Severus, Caracalla, who leads from 215 a major campaign in East. Vologèse VI was saved only by the assassination of Caracalla by Macrinus in 217. The Roman danger averted, Vologèse who had already had to get rid of his brother Artaban IV (216-224) had to face a new competitor, Ardashir ( Artaxerxes), the Sassanid who dethroned his rival in 222 and may have him put to death six years later. A new empire is born.
