Commentary

La signature est peut-être celle d'un graveur allemand. Feuardent date ce jeton du temps de Charles IX. La qualité du travail de gravure indiquerait plutôt une fabrication française mais la faible épaisseur du jeton pourrait être d’une fabrication allemande quoique les jetons français de l’époque n’étaient non plus épais. Par ailleurs, l’usage de signer la gravure était beaucoup plus allemand que français.
Les axes sont irréguliers sur les exemplaires vus.
The signature may be that of a German engraver. Feuardent dates this token to the time of Charles IX. The quality of the engraving would indicate French manufacture, but the token's thinness could be German, although French tokens of the time were not thick either. Furthermore, the custom of signing engraving was much more German than French. The axes are irregular on the examples seen.
