We must identify our coiner with the consul of 113 BC Cnæus Papirius Carbo who could be the brother of Marcus Papirius Carbo, coiner in 122 BC. They could then be the sons of Caius Papirius Carbo, the consul from 120 BC In 121 BC, the two consuls were Lucius Opimius and Quintus Fabius Maximus. Caius Gracchus was assassinated while for the first time the "senatus consultum ultimum" was used, an exceptional procedure which gives full powers to the consuls. The consul, Lucius Opimius, has the supporters of the tribune of the plebs executed. Cneius Domitius Ahenobarbus and Quintus Fabius Maximus, the second consul won a brilliant victory over the Allobroges and the Arvernes. The Arverne King Bituit is defeated.
