Exemplaire sur un flan ovale et irrégulier, frappé avec un coin mou au droit. Très joli revers de style grec. Magnifique patine avec des reflets mordorés

Obverse description : Athéna nicéphore debout à gauche, s'appuyant sur un bouclier de la main gauche ; grenade dans le champ à gauche.

Reverse


Reverse legend : LÉGENDE PAMPHYLIENNE.
Reverse description : Apollon Sidetes, nu, le manteau sur l'épaule, tenant une branche de laurier de la main droite et un arc de la gauche devant un autel allumé ; derrière, un oiseau (corbeau).

Commentary


Sur notre exemplaire, le corbeau n’est pas placé sur l’autel, mais derrière Apollon comme sur l’exemplaire que nous avions vendu dans MONNAIES VII, n° 27.

PAMPHYLIA - SIDE

(380-370 BC)

Side, located on the Pamphylian coast southeast of Aspendos, was settled by inhabitants of Cyme in the 7th century BC. Its inhabitants, who used a Pamphylian dialect and not Greek, were considered dishonest.
