Reverse description : Pudicitia (la Pudeur) voilée et drapée assise à gauche, tenant son voile de la main droite et un sceptre transversal de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Pudicitia Augustæ”, (La Pudeur de l'augusta).

Commentary


Poids lourd. Dans le Cohen, les auteurs (Feuardent Frères) signalaient en 1885 qu'un sesterce d'Otacilia Sévéra de ce type, avec une magnifique patine bleue, avait été adjugé 350 francs or à Paris, dans une vente publique soit la cote d’un médaillon d’or à l’époque.

Otacilie, daughter of Severus, governor of Pannonia, married Philip around 234. Philip II, their son, was born around 237. She seems to have sympathy for Christians, who enjoyed relative security under Philip's reign before the great persecution. by Trajan Decius. Her fate after the death of her husband and son is unknown. Is she murdered or does she retreat into private life? She disappears from history.
