Flan régulier, mais aux reliefs émoussés. Droit et revers bien centrés et identifiables. Le coin de droit devait être cassé et celui de revers bouché

Obverse description : Tête à gauche, la chevelure en grosses mèches, entourée de cordons perlés enroulés autour et terminés par de petites têtes.

Reverse

Reverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Reverse description : Cheval androcéphale, galopant à gauche ; au-dessus, une croisette rejoignant le vexillum par une corde ; entre les jambes, un petit personnage ailé accroupis.

Commentary

En bon or et de poids lourd, cette monnaie semble extrêmement rare. Le revers semble ne jamais avoir été décrit justement. L’exemplaire DT 2206 (= Sch/D. 231) est le plus proche de notre exemplaire, mais en or pâle plus proche de l’électrum.

(2nd - 1st centuries BC)

The Osismes were an Armorican people, settled in the current department of Finistère, at the northwestern end of Gaul and the Armorican coasts. They had as chief town Vorgium, today Carhaix. Their neighbors were the Veneti and the Coriosolites. Their name would mean "the furthest away" or "the people at the end of the world". They were subjugated by Caesar's army in 57 along with the other Armorican peoples. But from 56, they joined the coalition led by the Venetians. They will participate in the contingent of twenty-five thousand men provided in 52 BC to the army of the Gallic coalition by the Armorican peoples. Caesar (BG. II, 34, III, 9, VII, 75, 1).
