Historical background

ORLÉANAIS - COUNTY OF PERCHE - THOMAS or WILLIAM

(1202-1217 or 1217-1226)

Hervé, count of Mortagne, would have been the first lord of Perche before 954. The first count would be Guérin d'Alençon, lord of Domfront. This branch of the Counts of Perche died out in 1226. Louis IX recovered Perche in 1268 and gave it over to his fifth son, Pierre (1251-1284). In 1293, Philippe IV entrusted Perche to his brother Charles de Valois.
