Commentary

Manque à Feuardent avec ce buste.
L'ordre de Saint-Louis est un ordre royal et militaire institué par Louis XIV en 1693. Il était destiné à récompenser les services rendus à l'armée. La décoration consiste en une croix à huit pointes, cantonnée de fleurs de lis d’or. La croix portait d’un côté un Saint Louis tenant une couronne de laurier et de l’autre une couronne d’épines avec la devise Ludovicus Magnus instituit. Les grades sont les grand'croix, portant cette croix avec un large ruban couleur de feu, en écharpe ; les commandeurs au nombre de 24 et les chevaliers dont le nombre est illimité.
Missing from Feuardent with this bust. The Order of Saint Louis is a royal and military order established by Louis XIV in 1693. It was intended to reward services rendered to the army. The decoration consists of an eight-pointed cross, surrounded by golden fleurs-de-lis. The cross bore on one side a Saint Louis holding a laurel wreath and on the other a crown of thorns with the motto Ludovicus Magnus instituit. The ranks are the Grand Cross, wearing this cross with a wide fire-colored ribbon, as a sash; the Commanders, 24 in number; and the Knights, whose number is unlimited.
