Historical background

OCTAVIAN

(63 BC - 27 BC)

Octave, born on September 23, 63 BC in Thurium, was adopted by his uncle, Julius Caesar, in 45 BC. After Caesar's death, he formed the second triumvirate with Marc Antoine and Lépide and is one of the architects of the proscriptions which cost the life of Cicero in 43 BC. In 42 BC, Brutus and Cassius were defeated at Philippi, where they committed suicide. After the naval battle of Actium (31 BC) and the conquest of Egypt the following year, Octave celebrated a triple triumph in Rome (August 13-15, 29 BC). This year takes place the dedication of the temple of Julius Caesar.
