Exemplaire sur un petit flan ovale bien centré des deux côtés avec les grènetis visibles. Belle tête particulière d’Octave. Frappe un peu molle au revers. Jolie patine de collection avec des reflets dorés

Reverse description : Massue posée horizontalement à gauche.

Commentary


Poids léger. Fourré. Petites contremarques de banquier ou de changeur au droit sur le visage, au revers sur la massue. Pour ce type, M. Crawford a relevé une estimation de huit coins de droit et de six coins de revers. M. Crawford n’a répertorié qu’un unique exemplaire dans les trésors provenant du dépôt de Bourgueil. Ce type est infiniment plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les différents ouvrages de référence.

OCTAVE

(63 BC - 27 BC) Caius Julius Cæsar Octavianus

Octave, born September 23, 63 BC to Thurium, was adopted by his uncle, Julius Caesar, in 45 BC After Caesar's death, he formed the second Triumvirate with Mark Antony and Lepidus and was one of the architects of proscriptions which cost the lives of Cicero in 43 BC In 42 BC, Brutus and Cassius were defeated at Philippi, where they committed suicide. After the naval battle of Actium (31 BC) and the conquest of Egypt the following year, Octavian in Rome celebrated a triple triumph (13-15 August 29 BC). That year was held the dedication of the temple of Julius Caesar.
