Commentary


Contremarque au droit. Pour ce type, Michael Crawford a relevé une estimation inférieure à trente coins de droit et inférieure à trente-trois coins de revers pour quatre variétés. Quant à eux, les auteurs du Catàlogo ont relevé six variétés différentes pour ce denier. Ce type est en fait beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux. Pour ce type, M. Crawford a relevé quatre exemplaires provenant des dépôts d’Avvetrana (2 ex.), de Gallignano (1 ex.) et de Terranova (1 ex.). L’exemplaire de e-MONNAIES 1 s’est vendu 1.400€ avec huit offres sur une estimation en SUP de 600/1.200€.
Countermark on the obverse. For this type, Michael Crawford noted an estimate of less than thirty obverse dies and less than thirty-three reverse dies for four varieties. The authors of the Catàlogo noted six different varieties for this denarius. This type is in fact much rarer than general works suggest. For this type, Mr. Crawford noted four examples from the depots of Avvetrana (2 copies), Gallignano (1 copy) and Terranova (1 copy). The e-MONNAIES 1 example sold for €1,400 with eight bids on an estimate of €600/€1,200

OCTAVIAN

(63 BC - 27 BC)

Octavian, born September 23, 63 BC in Thurium, was adopted by his great-uncle, Julius Caesar, in 45 BC. After Caesar's death, he formed the second triumvirate with Marc Antony and Lepidus and was one of the architects of the proscriptions which cost Cicero his life in 43 BC. In 42 BC, Brutus and Cassius were defeated at Philippi, where they committed suicide. After the naval battle of Actium (31 BC) and the conquest of Egypt the following year, Octavian celebrated a triple triumph in Rome (August 13-15, 29 BC).
