Commentary

According to data provided by G. Cousinié, the Franco-Australian company was a huge cattle ranch belonging to Baron Digeon, whose portrait appears on the obverse of this emergency coin. The center of the operation was located in Gomen, which currently bears the name Gomen-Oualo. Nickel is very rarely used for emergency coins but was essential in New Caledonia, the world's leading producer at the time.
