Les orphéons apparurent en France suite à la loi de 1832 sur l'instruction primaire, dans le cadre de l'apprentissage du chant Ils s'adjoignirent rapidement des adultes, recrutés plutôt dans les milieux ouvriers et eurent un immense succès.
Orphéons appeared in France following the 1832 law on primary education, as part of singing lessons. They quickly joined adults, recruited mainly from working-class circles, and had immense success.
