Historical background

NIVERNAIS - COUNTY Nevers - CURRENCY ASSETS ON BEHALF OF LOUIS IV OVERSEAS

(960-1050)

Son of Charles the Simple, born in 921, Louis IV is under the rule of Hugh the Great, Duke of Île-de-France (936-954), a real holder of power. Louis died two years before his rival. Nevers normally was not part of the royal domain and is emancipated from the late tenth century when Hugh Capet became king of France. William Otte (987-992) became the first Count of Burgundy and fought against the first two Capetian kings. We thought it was the Count who had imitated the type of Louis IV.
