Historical background

NIVERNAIS - COUNTY Nevers - HERVE DE DONZY

(1199-1223)

Pierre de Courtenay, during the minority of his daughter Mahaut, had custody of the counties of Nevers, Auxerre and Tonnerre. First promised to Philippe de Hainaut, she married Hervé Donzy, through the intervention of Philip Augustus. In return for this help, Hervé de Donzy ceded to the King of France County Gien.
