Nicephorus II succeeded Romanus II in 963 after five months of interregnum. He married Theophano, widow of Romanus II, the mother of Basil II and Constantine VIII associated to the throne. Antioch was taken from the Muslims. After a reign of six years, Nicephorus was assassinated by John I, lover of the Empress.
