Cette monnaie provient de l’épave du navire Meresteijn, qui appartenait à la compagnie hollandaise des Indes et qui a fait naufrage au large de l’Afrique du Sud en 1702. On January 23, 1579, the five provinces of Holland, Zeeland, Utrecht, Gelderland and Friesland United Provinces formed a federal state during the Union of Utrecht.
