Commentary

The bust is rare. The galley administration likes to use the myth developed by Virgil: in the 9th book of the Aeneid, Turnus sets out to burn Aeneas' ships but Jupiter saves them by transforming them into Nereids. The sirens thus tend to take on a quasi-emblematic function in the 18th century for this administration, which is the only one to represent them on its tokens.
