Flan large, avec un bel avers complet et assez bien frappé. Revers relativement bien centré mais de frappe molle sur l’avant du cheval et sur l’aurige

Obverse description : Tête à droite, entourée de cordons perlés terminés par de petites têtes coupées ; la chevelure stylisée avec une croix sur le front.

Reverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.

Reverse description : Cheval androcéphale galopant à droite conduit par un aurige étendant la main droite (?) ; entre les jambes du cheval, hippophore.

Commentary

Ce statère d’un style inhabituel a été frappé avec les mêmes coins de droit et de revers que le n° 51 de la vente The Bru Sale Auction 6, 9 décembre 2011. Ce type précis avec cette tête très caractéristique manque au Nouvel Atlas ou encore à L’or Gaulois sur les monnayages de la façade atlantique.
This unusual stater was struck with the same obverse and reverse dies as No. 51 from The Bru Sale Auction 6, December 9, 2011. This specific type with this very characteristic head is missing from the New Atlas or from Gaulish Gold on the coins of the Atlantic coast.
