Le Nagorno Karabakh (ou Nagorny Karakakh ou Haut-Karabagh) est une république auto-proclamée du Caucase. Cette enclave de la République d’Azerbaidjan majoritairement peuplé d'Arméniens a déclaré son indépendance le 2 septembre 1991. Après une guerre assez meurtrière, un cessez-le-feu a été décrété en 1994.
Le monument “Nous sommes nos montagnes” a été édifié à Stepanakert : c’est le symbole de l’indépendence et du lien des habitants avec leurs montagnes.

The Republic of Artsakh, also known as the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, is a self-proclaimed separatist republic in Transcaucasia, located within the territory of Azerbaijan. This former Soviet-era autonomous oblast was then 95% Armenian. The first conflict pitted separatist fighters against Azerbaijani soldiers between 1988 and 1994. In 1994, the Russians secured a ceasefire. In 2020, a second conflict erupted, and an agreement was reached that favored Azerbaijan. In September 2023, after a blockade lasting several months, the enclave fell definitively to the Azerbaijani army, leading to the exodus of almost the entire Armenian population..
