Historical background

MONTBÉLIARD - COUNTY OF MONTBÉLIARD - ULRICH (VI DE WURTTEMBERG)

(1519-1534)

The estates of the House of Württemberg were definitively united in 1496. In 1492, the Emperor Maximilian raised the rank of Duke Eberhard V. From 1498 to 1519 a period of regency opened on the Duchy of Württemberg, the young Duke Ulric being still a minor. He was expelled from his states in 1520 and he took refuge in Montbéliard where he probably struck semi-gross. He returned to his German estates around 1534 and again minted coins in Stuttgart. In 1550, after his death, the duchy returned to Christopher of Württemberg (1550-1568).
