Commentary

La compagnie des Salines de l’Est est la privatisation des salines royales d’Arc et Senan. La rentabilité des Salines s’effondrera avec l’arrivée du chemin de fer et donc du sel marin transporté à un prix de plus en plus bas.
La société n’a pas laissé localement un très bon souvenir s’étant opposée violemment (dynamitage de certains bâtiments) au classement de l’ensemble architectural comme monument historique protégé en 1926.
