Ce type fut frappé entre 1905 et 1910, puis entre 1918 et 1920 et enfin en 1955. Entre 1955 et 1972, 1,767.645 pièces furent refrappées au millésime 1955. Au revers figure la tête de Michel Hidalgo (1753-1811) qui proclama l'Indépendance le 16 septembre 1810, abolit l'esclavage le 6 décembre et mourut fusillé en 1811.
