Commentary
Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla (1753-1811) est un religieux aux idées libérales. Célèbre pour son Grito de Dolores, appel à la sédition contre le gouvernement de Joseph Bonaparte, il devient vite le “père de la Patrie” initiateur de la guerre d’indépendance. En 1811, il est capturé, jugé et exécuté par les royalistes. Il sera aussi surnommé “El Zorro”.

Famous for his Grito de Dolores, a call to sedition against the government of Joseph Bonaparte, he quickly became the “father of the Fatherland” and initiator of the War of Independence. In 1811, he was captured, tried, and executed by the royalists. He would also be nicknamed “El Zorro.”
