Ce type fut frappé entre 1918 et 1920 et enfin entre 1944 et 1948. Entre 1951 et 1972, 5.025.087 pièces furent refrappées au millésime 1945. Au revers figure la tête de Michel Hidalgo (1753-1811) qui proclama l'Indépendance le 16 septembre 1810 et abolit l'esclavage le 6 décembre. Il est fusillé en 1811.
