Historical background

MEXICO - REPUBLIC

The reign of Joseph Napoleon is an opportunity for Hispanic America to shake off the Spanish yoke and revolt. The Mexican Revolution began in 1810 and actually lasted until the proclamation of the Republic in 1823. In the Treaty of Guadaloupe on May 2, 1848, Mexico ceded Texas and California to the United States, nearly half of his territory. Thirty years later, General Porfirio Diaz, who militated on the side of the liberals against French intervention in Mexico, seized power in 1876 and exercised it until 1911. During these 35 years of dictatorship, the country opened its doors to foreign capital, the economy is modernizing but social inequalities are growing.
