Horace Bénédict de Saussure est un physicien, géologue et naturaliste genevois, né le 17 février 1740 à Conches, dans la commune de Chêne-Bougeries, près de Genève, où il est mort le 22 janvier 1799. Il est aussi considéré comme l'un des fondateurs de l’alpinisme. Ses recherches eurent notamment pour cadre les Alpes, et plus particulièrement le massif du Mont-Blanc.

He is also considered one of the founders of mountaineering. His research took place in the Alps, and more specifically the Mont Blanc massif.
