Très beau petit denier, frappé sur un flan court et épais de frappe molle au droit mais très vigoureuse au revers. Patine grise de collection ancienne

Obverse description : Motif de fronton d’église (?) surmonté d’une croix.

Reverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.

Reverse description : Motif linéaire en forme de cœur, avec un triangle pointé à la base et surmonté d’une croisette.

Commentary

Les deux monnaies n° 215 et 216 du trésor de Bais, exactement de ce type avec la légende + GENIAC permettent d'attribuer ce type à l’atelier de Génillé, GENILIACO (Indre-et-Loire). Les deux seules monnaies étudiées dans le MONETA sont celles du trésor de Bais, reprises en 1970 par J. Lafaurie.

Genillé is a very old village (in the district of Loche) whose name appears on coins from the Merovingian period (7th century). Many Merovingian coins, badly minted, with very poor or inexplicit epigraphy, cannot be attributed to a particular mint. This workshop is only identified thanks to the coins of the treasure of Bais, with particularly welcome epigraphy!.
