Coments on the condition:
Bronze frappé sur un flan relativement large et irrégulier. Droit et revers complets et de frappe vigoureuse. Légère patine gris vert, laissant apparaitre le métal sur les points en reliefs du droit. Sinon, revers plus homogène

Reverse description : Cheval galopant à droite, la queue ondulée, surmonté d'un oiseau de face aux ailes déployées ; légende sous le cheval.
Commentary
Cet exemplaire est à distinguer des traditionnels bronzes épigraphes EPENOS. Le style du portrait ainsi que le traitement du revers fait penser à une imitation. Le droit est anépigraphe, sans aucune légende devant le visage alors que ces monnaies ont normalement la légende EPENOS. L’oiseau du revers, habituellement assez détaillé, ressemble plutôt à un cavalier ailé très stylisé, proche du papillon ! La légende entre les jambes du cheval est elle aussi très dégénérée.
This example is to be distinguished from the traditional EPENOS epigraph bronzes. The style of the portrait as well as the treatment of the reverse suggests an imitation. The obverse is anepigraphic, without any legend in front of the face whereas these coins normally have the legend EPENOS. The bird on the reverse, usually quite detailed, looks more like a very stylized winged rider, close to the butterfly! The legend between the horse's legs is also very degenerate

GALLIA BELGICA - MELDI (Area of Meaux)

The Meldes are mentioned only once in Caesar's work. This small people lived between the Seine and the Marne in the plain of Brie with Meaux as its capital. The Meldes emancipated themselves late from the tutelage of the Suessions and the Remes at the time of the Gallic Wars. Having become independent in 57 BC, the Meldes chose to ally with the Romans. Caesar had sixty ships built by the Meldes, in 55 BC, for the expedition to Brittany. Caesar (BG. V, 5).
