Commentary

“This medal “seems” satirical. It comes from a lot purchased in 1978 on the Route de Paris.” The style is reminiscent of the compositions of Giuseppe Arcimboldo (circa 1527-1593 in Milan). This Mannerist painter is famous for creating numerous phytomorphic portraits suggested by cleverly arranged plants, animals, or objects... except that here it's not vegetables.
