Commentary

Poids lourd. Rubans de type 2 avec extrémités bouletées. Les monnaies de Maxence pour l’atelier de Carthage sont en fait plus rares que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux.
Heavyweight. Type 2 ribbons with rounded ends. Maxentius' coins for the Carthage mint are actually rarer than general works suggest.

Historical background

MAXENTIUS

(28/10/306-28/10/312)

Augustus

Maxentius, son of Maximian, was proclaimed Caesar on October 28, 306 in Rome, then took the title of Filius Augustorum. In 307, he was proclaimed august, controlling Italy and Africa with the help of Maximian. In 308, he lost Africa with the revolt of Alexander. At the conference of Carnuntum, he was declared a public enemy, but managed to stay in Italy until 312, the year of his defeat at Ponte Milvius, at the gates of Rome, where he died by drowning in the Tiber..
