On August 20, 1672, the armies of Louis XIV invaded the Netherlands. Jean Kievit and Corneille Tromp organize a plot against the de Witt brothers who are accused of treason. In August 1672, the Orangemen caused riots. Witt's brothers are massacred; their bodies exposed as trophies.
