On peut suivre la carrière et les portraits du général Avon sur le site. C’est cette carrière où il est dit qu’il n’avait pas repris de service pendant la grande guerre qui explique le choix du cuivre pour cette médaille d’hommage. La ligue était ce que nous appellerions aujourd’hui un groupe de pression et l’estime portée à un général en retraite limitée.
