Commentary

Ce jeton est le seul de toute cette large série à adopter l’orthographe de ETERNO et non pas de AETERNO, précurseur donc de l’orthographe moderne.
C'est sur l'île des Faisans, sur la rivière de la Bidassoa à la frontière de la France et de l'Espagne, qu'eurent lieu les conférences de la paix des Pyrénées. A l'occasion de cette paix conclue le 7 novembre 1659, furent établies les conditions sur le mariage du roi et de Marie-Thérèse, infante d'Espagne.
This token is the only one in this entire large series to adopt the spelling ETERNO and not AETERNO, thus a precursor to modern spelling. It was on Pheasant Island, on the Bidasoa River on the border of France and Spain, that the conferences of the Peace of the Pyrenees took place. On the occasion of this peace concluded on November 7, 1659, the conditions for the marriage of the king and Maria Theresa, Infanta of Spain were established.
