Historical background

MARCIANA

(+112)

Trajan' s sister, Matidia's mother, Sabina's grand-mother

Ulpia Marciana is Trajan's older sister. She married a senator, C. Salonius Matidius Patruinus with whom she had a daughter, Matidie. She certainly receives the title of Augusta at the same time as Plotina, wife of Trajan. Marciane died in August 112 and was deified the following month. His daughter Matidie received the title of Augusta the following year. Marciane is also the grandmother of Sabine, Hadrian's wife.
