Commentary

For this type, Mr. Crawford noted an estimate of twenty-eight obverse dies and thirty-five reverse dies. This denarius is rarer than the reference catalogs suggest. In the hoards, only seventeen examples have been noted, coming from the deposits of Fiesole (2 ex.), Berchidda (8 ex.), Monte Condruzzo (4 ex.), Pontecovro (1 ex.), Avvetrana (1 ex.) and Vigatto (1 ex.)
