Commentary

Maison célèbre au nom évocateur. Rue Blondel : Cette rue perpendiculaire à la rue St Denis, doit son nom à la proximité de la Porte Saint-Denis construite en 1672 par François Blondel. S'y tenait jadis, au n°16, la maison close "Au Moulin" aux courbes et au décor floral art nouveau. Au 32, un établissement concurrent, "Aux Belles poules", s'ornaient de mosaïques qui sont aujourd'hui classées (mais invisibles). L'activité de la rue survécut à la fermeture des bordels en 1946 et fut pendant 60 ans le fleuron de la prostitution de rue. C'est là qu'on trouvait les plus belles ! Aujourd'hui la prostitution de rue se meurt, la rue Blondel aussi..
Famous house with an evocative name. Rue Blondel: This street, perpendicular to Rue St Denis, owes its name to its proximity to the Porte Saint-Denis, built in 1672 by François Blondel. Formerly, at number 16, stood the brothel \\\"Au Moulin,\\\" with its art nouveau curves and floral decor. At number 32, a rival establishment, \\\"Aux Belles Poules,\\\" was adorned with mosaics that are now listed (but invisible). The street's activity survived the closure of the brothels in 1946 and was for 60 years the flagship of street prostitution. This is where the most beautiful women were found! Today, street prostitution is dying, and so is Rue Blondel.
