MAISON DU ROI
The medieval Hôtel du Roi gave way to the Maison du Roi, comprising two branches: one civil, the other military. It was headed by a secretary of state at the King's Household. The civil house is composed of about 4000 people headed by the grand chaplain, the grand master, the grand chamberlain, the first doctor, the grand master of ceremonies, the grand squire, etc. It includes 22 departments: music, wardrobe, large stable, etc. The military household included four companies of bodyguards, one of a hundred Swiss, etc..
