Commentary

Il s’agit d’une frappe en cuivre rouge qui a été dorée, certainement à l’époque, le résultat étant aujourd’hui en piteux état. Aucune explication à fournir, c’est la première fois que nous voyons ce type de dorure sur un cuivre.
La faute d’orthographe à REINE est d’autant plus étonnante que l’euphonie laisse penser que le graveur de la légende pensait vraiment que cette orthographe était exacte. À noter que Feuardent ne l’a pas remarquée.
This is a red copper strike that was gilded, certainly at the time, the result being in a pitiful state today. No explanation is needed, this is the first time we have seen this type of gilding on a copper. The spelling mistake in REINE is all the more surprising because the euphony suggests that the engraver of the legend really thought this spelling was correct. Note that Feuardent did not notice it
