Obverse description : Tête casquée d'Athéna à droite, coiffée du casque corinthien à aigrette, orné d'un serpent ; les cheveux tombant sur la nuque en mèches torsadées.

Reverse description : Niké debout à gauche, les ailes déployées, tenant de la main droite une couronne et de la gauche la stylis ; dans le champ à gauche, une fourmi placée verticalement ; au-dessous, une étoile à huit rais.

(319-297 BC)

Coinage in the name of Alexander III the Great type

Cassander, the first of the Epigones, succeeded his father, Antipater, in 319 BC. He allied himself in 315 with Seleucus, Ptolemy and Lysimachus to fight Antigone and Demetrius. In 311 BC, he killed Roxane and Alexander IV. In 305 BC, he assumed the title of king. Cassander triumphed over Antigone at Ipsos where the latter died. He was killed in 297 BC with his son Philip IV and it was his son Antigone Gonatas who finally succeeded him in 283 BC on the death of Demetrius Poliorcetes.
