Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle sur un flan ovale bien centré avec les grènetis visibles. Très belle tête d’Héraklès. Revers de style fin et de haut relief. Magnifique patine de médaillier avec des reflets mordorés

Ce type aujourd’hui est bien à attribuer à Philippe III Arrhidée plutôt qu’à Alexandre III le Grand. Mais d’après H. A. Troxell, il pourrait appartenir aussi à Cassandre et être daté au plus tard de 295 avant J.-C..

Philip, son of Philip II and the half-brother of Alexander, was not entirely in his right mind. On the death of the conqueror and faced with the lack of power, in order to maintain the fiction of the unity of the Empire, he was proclaimed king, but in fact he had no power. He was assassinated at the instigation of Olympias, Alexander's mother, in 316 BC.
