Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle sur un flan ovale parfaitement centré des deux côtés avec les grènetis visibles. Portrait d’Héraklès de toute beauté où tous les détails de la léonté sont bien visibles. Revers de style fin bien venu à la frappe. Belle patine de collection ancienne avec des reflets mordorés et bleutés irisés. Conserve la plus grande partie de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

Obverse description : Tête d'Héraklès à droite, coiffée de la léonté.

Reverse description : Zeus aétophore, les jambes parallèles, assis à gauche sur un siège sans dossier, nu jusqu'à la ceinture, tenant un aigle posé sur sa main droite et un long sceptre de la main gauche ; dans le champ à gauche, un bouclier macédonien.

Commentary

Ce type est posthume, l’un des premiers frappés après la mort du conquérant à Babylone en juin 323 avant J.-C. H. A. Troxell dans son corpus (NS. 21) a relevé un total de 455 tétradrachmes avec 97 coins sur une estimation totale de 109 coins de droit. Sur cet exemplaire, le casque macédonien est particulièrement bien venu à la frappe.
This type is posthumous, one of the first struck after the death of the conqueror in Babylon in June 323 BC. Troxell in his corpus (NS. 21) noted a total of 455 tetradrachms with 97 dies out of a total estimate of 109 obverse dies. On this example, the Macedonian helmet is particularly well suited to striking.
