Historical background

MACEDONIA - MACEDONIAN KINGDOM - ALEXANDER V

(297/296 - 295 BC)

Alexander is the son of Cassander and Thessaloniké. He is also the brother of Philippe IV and Antipater. Through his mother, he is also the nephew of Alexander III the Great. After the death of his older brother, the kingdom is shared between Alexander V and his brother Antipater. Antipater eliminates his mother who favored his brother. Alexander appeals to his powerful neighbors Pyrrhus and Demetrius Poliorcetes. Pyrrhus easily gets rid of Antipater. Alexander V and Demetrius come into conflict and finally Alexander V is assassinated in 294 BC in Larissa.
