MACEDONIA - PROVINCE OF MACEDONIA - THESSALONIKI
After the capture of Perseus at Pydna in 168 BC by Paul-Émile, Greece was divided into four republics. Thessaloniki, the ancient Therma, the modern Salonika, received its name in honor of the wife of Cassander in 315 BC The city was the capital of the Second Republic. After the revolt of Andriscus, Macedonia was heavily taxed and treated as a conquered province. Under the Empire, it became a senatorial province.
